January 2018

Sure, you can just e-mail us the money

By | 2018-01-17T17:01:41+00:00 January 17th, 2018|Home Depot|

I was covering for appliances when I received a phone call from a customer. It appears she lived about an hour from the store and wanted to buy a washer and dryer, but could only pay in cash because her checking account had been frozen. She wanted to know if she could pay in cash online. My response: "Sure, you can just e-mail us the money."

I’m gonna put a meter there

Our backerboard is right in front of the bathrooms. I'm tired of people constantly stopping and saying "I'm gonna leave this here for a minute." Don't tell me, just do it. I'm gonna put a meter there, have them put coins in. If your meter expires, we're putting your stuff back.

November 2017

I’ll just test them all

By | 2017-11-19T22:04:15+00:00 November 19th, 2017|Home Depot|

Had a guy by the vinyl flooring asking about how durable they are. Told him about each one we carry and he said he'd "test them out". Proceeds to take a reciprocating saw blade and scratch each and every sample of vinyl we had out, saying "No this one scratches, this one too." Just started thinking to myself "No s*** they scratch if you're slashing a blade across them like you're slicing a baguette." Politely, but firmly asked him to stop, said he'd think about getting it and left.

You can load it yourself

I was the department manager for lumber and building materials... and use to be in flooring. When we had customers like this we would tell them, we only load nothing else. If they want to put plastic down for us to put the bags on top we can, other wise they have to load it them selves. This also included when they had to much weight for their vehicle. They had to load it and break their vehicle. On this note I loaded a guys Porsche SUV and placed the bag on his beach towels he put down...(later found [...]

Dust off the bags before putting them in my car

By | 2017-11-18T21:28:45+00:00 November 18th, 2017|Home Depot|

I have dealt with this customer before, our newest lumber associate had not. This guy shows up in a Lexus suv to get 25 bags of concrete. He insists we dust them off and set them gently into his vehicle. I have, in the past, refused and won't load anything for this guy anymore. Our new associate told him exactly where he could put this concrete and walked out. Not sure if he is coming back. Oh yeah, when ever someone loads this guy 1or more bags always seem to slip and fall inside his Lexus and create a [...]

You cut it wrong

I answered the call button in modular shelving. The customer said that he wanted 4 - 40" of the Closetmaid shelving cut. I cut the first piece and handed it to the customer, he said, "let me see your tape measure". He measures the piece and quickly exclaims "you cut this wrong!". I reply "I'm sorry, what size did you ask for?" His reply was "40". My question back to him, "and what did I cut?" His reply was "exactly 40", Me, "so what is the problem?" Him "Well I'm a contractor and when ever I order shelving from [...]

What size are my pipes?

By | 2017-10-29T15:12:51+00:00 October 29th, 2017|Home Depot|

Customer asked me what size the pipes are in his house. The house that was built about 80 years ago. The house that he has no idea if it is up to code. So no, I don't know what size YOUR pipes are. Then he started talking down to me because clearly I can't actually know anything about plumbing.
